As human beings, we were blessed with the gift of speech, with a higher consciousness that no other animal on the Earth possesses, and yet, we never fail to forget this, forget what makes us different, sets us apart from all the rest

I don't understand people who use text abbreviations on papers, in SPEECH or "lolspeak" as their mode of communication. It makes me itch.
As a writer and an educated person all of this grammar and spelling nonsense has me so sick to my stomach. I've actually been straying farther and farther from the internet just to get away from it all!
I just can't believe that people used those abbreviations on PAPERS. Oh dear. I have been tempted on many an occasion to do the w/ thing, but it's just not right!!! I don't even do that when I'm writing rough drafts for fear I'll forget to take it out!!
Anyway. I'll get off my soapbox and give you the standing ovation you deserve for this. Did you come across something not so nice in your beta-ing?

*blushes*
Nothing that I beta'd or anything like that inspired this little diatribe (although, I've definitely come across some stuff in my travels through the internet that could have used a good betaing...or two...or three...)--it's just been something that's been kicking around in my head for a while, and I wanted to get it out. The impetus to finally write it all down was a very lovely comment that someone left me in one of my updates for AYW, which basically asked how is it that I write so well. *blushes and hides* It was then that I thought "I'm nothing special, I just use language to it's full potential--anyone can do it!" ^.^
That, and someone actually used the word "melisma" in their fic in such a poignant way that reaffirmed my belief that the art of Language isn't totally dead. :-)

Your writing isn't crappy at all, and in no way was I referring to you at all--and besides, it's my job to make sure that it doesn't! ^.^ Furthermore kutla, you don't give yourself enough credit: your English is amazing, and far better than many native speakers I know. :-)
Love you tons and tons darling--IJAS always! ♥
