Part Eight
"So you're sure she doesn't know who stole the voodoo doll?"
Ophelia nodded. "Yeah, she seemed pretty honest when we were talking. Though I would've preferred using a truth potion so I could be absolutely sure. But I couldn't risk Kimberly telling Frances."
"Good," Phoebe said. "If Frances found out about all this- well, there's no saying what she'd do."
"So you'll make the protective charm for her then?" Ophelia asked the head witch.
"Of course," Phoebe replied. "We can't train her to use magic properly if Frances is trying to stop us at every turn. And if we can train her, then I think that will be enough to keep Tina from ending up like her great-great-aunt."
Ophelia shuddered. She may not have been alive during that infamous time, but she'd heard the stories. It wouldn't be fair to deny Tina the right to use magic because of what one voodoo witch did, the way Francis wanted to, but Ophelia could see why Francis would think it was justified. No one wanted history to repeat itself.

"Tina..."
Tina looked around, trying to figure out who'd said her name and finding no one.
"I hear you're ready to learn voodoo magic. But you're never going to learn from dusty books and witches who haven't even seen voodoo magic in sixty years, if they've seen it at all, let alone practiced it."
"W-who's speaking?" Tina called out.
"Someone who can help you learn how to use your magic to its fullest potential."
Tina thought for a moment she saw a woman standing in the shadow, but the strange figure disappeared in the blink of an eye.
"Well? Will you be satisfied learning only the basics, or will you let me teach you all the secrets of voodoo?"
