[email I sent to the editorial staff at Newsweek:]

Just out of curiosity, why is it that in a 4 page article on the situation of blacks in America contending with HIV ("Battling a Black Epidemic") that the resistance that many of European descent have (due to the plague of Black Death in the 14th century) does not get discussed? the article was very ethnocentric. I thought it was funny though because the critical problems were chiefly religious repression of sexuality, promiscuity, drug use and the warped ideals of "manhood" propagated by hip hop culture.

I guess if they want to continue to be "black" by their standards, eventually they'll kill enough of themselves off it won't really matter. The world is overpopulated as it is.

It will probably only further the misguided beliefs that crack and HIV were invented by the "man" to keep them down (though their behavior is by choice, not by the "man" twisting their arms or holding them at gunpoint to bone 'hos and smoke rock).

Just another pathetic example of weak "culture".

Exactly.

What ticked me off about the article was that it was being played off as just a social problem. Obviously, poverty, intravenous drug-use, promiscuity, and not 'coming-out-of-the-closet', are going to be MAJOR factors, but not taking the lack of immunity into account too is just irresponsible. That would be like pretending that blacks are not more at risk from sickle-cell anemia or that northern europeans are not more at risk from cystic fibrosis and skin cancer. It is damn sloppy journalism!
