I did that with some sort of medical papers I found in a supermarket parking lot. I've also found bank cards at ATMs and slid them under the bank door.

And as proof of karma - I dropped my wallet twice this winter and didn't know it until people called to say they'd found it. Nothing was missing.

that happened to a friend of mine recently. she dropped her licence on the way to the bus stop, and it turned up 3 days later just sitting in her letterbox.

good on you for sending the persons licence back to them. its a good thing to do.
