Her wrist brushed against his sleeve as she reached for his hand. He fought the urge to pull away, instead he smiled softly as she demonstrated how their newest case’s hand had been slashed. He closed his eyes briefly as her fingertips brushed over his palm.
It had been so long since contact of any kind had had that effect on him, and Mick wondered why Beth was so different. Maybe it was because of their past, as Josef was fond of pointing out. But maybe, Mick feared, it was something else.
Something he couldn’t form into words, like love.
