Critiques and insults.

So, I'm on a website called "absolute write" that is, for the most part, absolutely fabulous for aspiring writers like me.  It's got discussion about every aspect of publishing, and of course, there's lots of people to critique your work.

So I'm trying to wrest together this original story now (I've been working on it for months), and I told ( Read more... )

writing, absolute write

Eeeep. Apparently this guy doesn't realize there's a difference between critiquing and flaming...what a jerk!

(I'm fairly sensitive about getting feedback, so this guy would have really ripped me apart).

Do you write, then? What kind of stuff do you do?

How immature. It's always really cute when they feel the need to puff themselves up by pulling other people down.
I don't write anymore, but one of the best experiences of my life was spending a couple weeks in Vermont with a group of aspiring writers and a bunch of published authors to lead us. The opportunity to work on a craft was important, to be sure, but what I remember even more clearly was how the process of kind but persistent criticism gave all of us the opportunity to be better people. Proper critique does give you that chance, but clearly this nut never got the memo.

*giggle* Thanks, that made me feel better. :)

I'm so jealous that you got to go to a real writers conference, though--that's one of my big goals, definitely.

This is my big internet pet-hate!

people who think that they can just be nasty and that's good enough a criticism...I have seen websites and forums shut down because of a constant stream of people like him.

When I was younger I was obsessed with profesional wrestling (now just a casual fan) I used to go on websites and look at the goss and opinions and after a while I started to dislike the show..it came down to a choice either ignore the websites or stop watching the show.

I decided to ignore the websites and I am happier for it...I suggest you do the same, some people think that just because they are sitting at a computer it gives them a licence to be wankers

...that actually felt good ;)

Since that site helps me critique my work and exposes me to published authors, agents, and editors, I can't just ignore the whole thing. But if you mean ignoring this jerk in particular, definitely.

Thankfully, my experience there has been 100% positive up until this, so if I just don't pay attention to that idiot, I'll be fine.

Thanks for the support. *hugs*

yeah I meant ignore that particular idiot, it's easy to do if the rest of the experience has been positive...best of luck!

Ok... he needs to get laid *snorts*

No srsly, one thing is to give constructive criticism and to be mean just for the kicks is quite another.

I'd answer him explaining the difference between flaming and critiquing to this moron, but as I've said, you are to much of a lady to say the words I have in mind.

Stupid fuck...

Yay, for you writing!

What a douchenozzle. He's obviously taking his mid-life crisis out on you.

What sort of fiction do you write?

Thanks for the support. :) Loved reading your latest post about Japan.

I actually write lots of different types of fiction, though there's often a supernatural element involved. I love doing it. Who knows, maybe someday I'll be able to get something published, if I keep trying.

No slash, then? ;)

Let's hope so! Is that your career goal to keep the comics flowing?

I don't have any stories built around slash, though I do have one femslash romance in the works, and another story with a prominent gay couple as the main characters, though it's mostly an action story. :)

I do love comics...one thing I'm working on is a webcomic. But who knows how long that might take, right?
