I don't watch either, but I have a lot of undue animosity towards The Big Bang Theory (I cannot explain it, I have literally never seen an episode, and you'd think I'd feel great about a show that Wil Wheaton sometimes plays himself on) so I picked Cougar Town. Because Busy Phillips was my fave on Freaks and Geeks, and I am forever obsessed with Jordan Sullivan. This is sound reasoning, I think.

I watched about the first four episodes of Cougar Town and wasn't wild about it and quit, but then of course apparently it got amazing and everyone loved it and it's like when I quit 30 Rock after two episodes, only to realize towards the end of that TV season that I'd made a horrible mistake.

Sounds like good reasoning to me!

I tried out the first episode of CT and said, "This is not going to turn out well!" and walked away from it right away. I usually give things more of a chance, but I thought it was a good choice on my part at the time. It apparently wasn't!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's so good! It's rivaling 30 Rock as my favorite show. I definitely like it better than Modern Family. I wouldn't necessarily say it's better written or a better show, I just find it much funnier.

The first 6 eps are not great, but after episode 7 it starts to get into its groove.

Cougar Town! I haven't seen Season 1, but apparently it's like P&R where it took a while to find its footing. I have heard only the first few episodes are lousy.

Plus you would probably enjoy the "Community" shout-outs.

BBT is OK and I watch it occasionally, but I can't see it as something you would like. Jim Parsons is good but it has a very "standard 90s sitcom" vibe.

I think I would, too! I saw that Danny Pudi -- who plays Abed, who's a big 'Cougar Town' fan and source of most of the 'CT' shoutouts on 'Community' -- was in the background of a recent 'Cougar Town' scene and that struck me as really cool.

Yeah, apparently there was a Community episode where he mentioned being an extra on CT? (I know I should watch Community. I will prob. Netflix at some point.) So that's why he was in the background.

Also: CT is from the creator of Scrubs and BBT is from the creator of Two and a Half Men. I actually wasn't a big Scrubs fan, but...

There was! My first thought was, "Abed really was an extra on 'Cougar Town.'" (I was going to say more, but I don't want to spoil anything if/when you do Netflix it.)

I will admit, the fact that it's done by the 'Two and a Half Men' guy is part of why I didn't try it out when it first started. Ugh, that show is the worst.

So the thing about Cougar Town is that you have to seriously soldier on for like ten episodes at the beginning, and then all of a sudden it's amazing and you want to watch ALL OF THE COUGAR TOWN and you want to teach everyone you know how to play Penny Can.

Also it's like Kickass Ladies 101.

(penny caaaaaaaaaaaaaan!)
