I always thought it was pretty simple. You know, boy likes girl, girl likes boy, then whatever. Then the Male/Female rules come in... But now that I've read this... I'm confused now. :\

That's pretty much it. Modern times have given us a lot of new stuff to deal with. New trends and all like the "hook-ups," "online dating," "one-night-stands," etc. You have people who don't really like the partner, but just want something out of them. Heck, there's even relationships just for publicity value. I suspect most celebrities hook up just to get the spotlight back on 'em. Relationships now really can get more complicated than they were before.

But the best ones are those that stay simple. "We like each other as we are, no strings attached."
