GOD DAMN UNITED!!!

Ok, Jenn and I made reservations on last Thursday night for a flight home from Salt Lake City to Omaha, and accidentally made them for March 12th instead of April 26th because of United's annoying-to-use website. The tickets cost around $130 each, and the ticket change fee is an OUTRAGEOUS $150 per ticket. Thus, we are screwed. It is SO bullshit. I ( Read more... )

It's sweet of you to take part of the blame for this ... but it was all me. I didn't double check the date before making the reservation. Thank you for calling United and going through the frustration of trying to get anything from those "no speak English good" service center chunks. *Sighs*

I'll book new tickets tomorrow when I'm not so ticked off at myself, and this time I will triple check the damn dates! Let it be known here that I am not expecting you to have to pay me anything towards these tickets. It was my mistake and I will pay for it.

Also, I'm not sure airline tickets are transferable to a different name (without more fees, anyway), but it was a nice thought to offer.

I love you, and I'm sorry I am a doofus.
Jenn

Ugh...that sucks. As far as I know though, there's not too much you can do about it. All airlines have that darn rule about charging to change your flight date or time. But ugh...to make it even more than the ticket was originally? That's pretty outrageous. Maybe you can find a way to talk to someone higher up the chain for the airline and complain? If you threaten not to use their airline anymore, maybe they'll do something for you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, MS, United is annoying because they have the highest change fee of any airline (all the others are like a $30-$50 change fee)
I tried to talk to a manager, but all I got was other indian reps who could speak english a LITTLE better, and they couldn't do anything for me. I did threaten not to use them anymore, and I doubt I will use them again. They are annoying.

awww, you're sweet tello-nyar! *huggles* it makes me happy that you'd be willing to help.
I think I can handle it, since Jenn's gonna absorb the loss. I just hate the fact that we'll.. or erm.. she'll be basically WASTING $300. *sai*

They won't let you change people on the ticket.... Did you call the international line or the domestic line?

Good luck.

No, they won't let you change the name. No airline lets you change the name. Sorry - I was telling, but it came out like asking. Oops.

Would it be cheaper to book tickets through another airline than to change the date on those tickets? Surely you can find something for less than $150/ticket... if nothing else, can't you just buy a second set of tickets for the appropriate dates and just not use your first set? That's cheaper than changing dates.
