Pu’u ~ Hill. or mound. In Hawaii, most of these are cinder cones.
A’a ~ ‘Gnarly lava’. A form of lava rock that is sharp and pitted, like pumice but much coarser and denser. Typically jet black in color, or reddish if it contains iron oxides. If you step on it with bare feet, you will say "a'a! "
