Snobs suck...

There's a café in my city that is classified as an "intellectual café", that is, a café whose clients are almost exclusively college professors and students. Nothing wrong with that, right?! Everyone chooses to go whenever they feel like going but when someone is judged by their appearance, without even entering. This happened to me today. This ( Read more... )

In Chile, we also have those places. I simply avoid them when necessary. I don't think anyone cares that you're reading this über-philosophical novel from a guy who was a rather unpronouncable name for Spanish-speakers, or that you're writing your next novel on an iMac, or that you're listening to the latest hit song from the UK on your iPhone.
However, my old major (English Philology) was full of those people.

God, that's terrible.

I'm in a private university and you would think that that uni would be full of snobby people but I actually get along with them. The only way they show that they have money is when they speak about going on vacation to exotic places as if they were going to a local beach. Oh, when prices are refered, but besides that I don't notice any frontal snobishness. But this?! Just makes me annoy them more. ;)

I go to a Catholic University which is considered to be really snob, and that's true in some majors with people who love to brag about trips, ask you about your last names, the school you went to, among other things (and those are the kind of people who can go on debt to become someone else). And the worst thing is that they love "acting like if they were tacky people" (i.e. listening to cumbia or reggaeton, bragging that they got drunk with cheap rum or vodka, or actually dressing like one with oversized tracksuits).

But, at English philology... they all look up to Britain as if they were gods of perfection. They over use Spanglish, talk about weird authors, and brag about UK indie music. I once told them to watch a British reality show (I mean... those could be the worst shows ever since most of the people are rather rude and lazy), and I said "that's the real Britain"... They couldn't believe it.

Well...that's special. Really special.

The "acting as if they were tacky people" is just...I don't even have words for it. Honestly just because they have more money, that doesn't mean that they're better than anyone...I don't like tacky, but I don't mock them (except if I really hate the person, then everything they do is free range). Everyone has the right to do what they want.

And Britain "the Goddess of Perfection"?! Well, except Black Adder and Brit Com, which I absolutely love, the rest is just "that's alright".

They have soap operas also, some people forget that. And English philology...what can you do with that course?! :§

Snobby people are so annoying! Just because I don't dress and act exactly the same way you do, and think the exact same thoughts, doesn't give you the right to look at me like I'm an idiot. GRAH.

(this is the sort of thing that gets on my nerves very much, if you couldn't tell, lol)

Yeah, it gets on my nerves too. And the thing is, I actually read a lot and resemble the intelectual stereotype a bit too, I just don't dress like them.

And what would be the fun of everyone acting the same?! A bit of diversity is necessary.

Yeah, but when you go on vacations, you don't actually dress as if you were going to a chic party. You wear comfortable clothes, so the tourists' appearance hasn't got anything to do with the money they actually have.

Apparently cafés are like high school groups' hang outs where a group can't really be in the other group's space...elitism much?!

She probably lost a valuable client...just ignore it. I probably would have been even more annoying and would've tried every bag that there was in that shop...believe me, I can be just a pest when I want.
