Letting Go

Colby rested his head on the headboard and stared at his lover. He sighed. Just when he thought he was over his past, the memories came flooding back.

Tonight was supposed to be an amazing night. Colby and his lover were taking the next step in their relationship. Things had started off great, but Colby couldn’t keep his past experience from resurfacing. He couldn’t shut out the General’s face, words, and cruel insults. Colby wanted to stop, but feared that his lover would discover his deepest secret.
The green-eyed agent ran a hand over his face trying to hold back the tears that threaten to fall. Feeling an arm wrap around his shoulder and pull him into a hug. Colby’s composure broke and the tears were freed from their prison.

“I’m sorry, Char…” Colby whispered through his tears. “I couldn’t stop…I tried…but I’m weak.”

The curly haired professor rubbed the broken green-eyed agent, letting him drown out his anguish

Suddenly, Colby pulled away from the mathematician feeling disgusted and unworthy. Charlie reached for his hand but Colby pulled away. Charlie sighed knowing what his lover was thinking. He sat up and turned to face his lover and put his hand to his face.

“Colby,” he started

“How can you touch me, Charlie, love me after this? I don’t…”

“Colby, listen to me. It’s not your fault. He doesn’t deserve …” Charlie felt his blood boil just thinking about what that man had done to his Colby.

“I’m not him Colbs. I don’t know what he did but I’m here for you and we’re going to get through this.”

Colby gazed up at Charlie and slowly nodded. He was right. Colby had to let go of the ghost from his past; he wasn’t going to allow them to haunt his life.
