FIC: Family Hour (AB)

May 17, 2006 17:13

This is what happens when a plot bunny sinks its teeth into my brain and cannot be shaken loose. I wrote this today. It's Anita/Micah... let me know what you think; I'm curious if the intended reactions of Anita and Micah come across.

I think Micah might object if I start waving holy objects at his parents,

Why? I don't think I'd mind, hell, I'd help..

The housecleaning orgy thingy was funny, it's not the kind of orgy I'd like to see him engaged in.

Overall, great fic. If this wasn't on lj I'd be wondring if you weren't LKH herself, the Anita voice was perfect.

It's like that scene in Buffy, where Xander tries to ward off not!vamp!Willow and the cross doesn't work and he gives it a shake to try again. Hee hee.

This was a PG story, no orgy-orgies for Nathaniel today.

I do so love to write Anita. She's just a great complicated layered cake character.

That was SO good. Truthfully, if anything ever happened to LKH, I would want you to continue on the legacy. I love that we met his family. I'm always curious as to how the families would react to our characters. Like how would Anita's family react to meeting all her men (specifically Jean-Claude...) That would be awesome!

Thanks! I was gripped by the plot bunny and it wouldn't let me *not* write this today.

I've got a great idea for Anita's dad meeting Nathaniel. It's, as you no doubt can guess, angsty. Poor Anita. No breaks for her.

That would be awesome. Like I said, I love when people meet the family and hijinks ensue.

My account confuses me, but I'll still lay claim upon it.

Not sure about making this into a series.... I've done all I want with Micah's family for a little while :)

Bah!

...

Well, I suppose that's okay. It's not like you are a slow writer or anything. ;) And in other news... *eyes those books* You are making me wanna start from the beginning again.

I really loved the interaction between Micah's dad and Micah. (His father reminds me of Dolph in a way.)

I really liked this part:
Micah recovered first. "I didn't know you felt that way about me being a wereleopard, Dad," he said in a voice so calm I wanted to cry. "But we never talked about it, did we?"

Micah's statement and Anita's reaction are perfect. And Franklin's response is very typical of what happens to the family of (for example) a rape victim. The blame is often shifted to the victim. It's not that Franklin doesn't love his son, it's more likely that he blames himslef for not being able to protect him. Besides that, the attack on Micah irrevocably changed the relationship between father and son. It seems (to me anyway) that Micah was once very close to his father, and his father I'm sure mourns that loss. His resentment towards Anita is wrong, but I can see where it's coming from. Anita is Micah's "home" now and his parents are still mourning the loss.

Doubly so because Micah's dad was supposed to be on that hunting trip. If they never talked about it after the fact, with all the emotional repercussions (Micah living and the uncle and cousin not; Micah becoming the monster that attacked him), then the problems could morph into other areas, like I wrote above about Franklin prickling that his son is basically living off some woman. It's *so* not what's happening, but Franklin jumped to conclusions (and probably had several ideas about Anita before he walked in to the house).

A whole huge mess.
