Switchback

Summary: It's a funny thing, time. It can cure us or it can drive us mad. For Anita Blake, simply waking up can take her to the path of madness, especially when time is not behaving as it should be.

*Cheers* A thing of beauty, this is. Anita with many layers, finally getting things together. And your Edward? Oh, I do love Edward and you do him justice. I'm just enamoured of this world, the way you've put things together. It's a sidestep away from canon but in such a way that it makes things so interesting. Alike but not, if you know what I mean.

And I keep hoping to see an Anita shopping scene. I know, bad reviewer, asking for things. But I think your take on Anita revamping her wardrobe, so to speak, would be so much...fun! Pwwweeeaaassseee [with extra puppy dog eyes]. Of course, you can feel free to ignore that request. I wouldn't mind.

Thanks. I think it's easier to write pre-Obsidian Butterfly Edward. He only ever came to town with a purpose, wheras in OB he called Anita in, and he couldn't keep his lives separate anymore.

As the story progresses, as things more in a different direction that canon, I think I get to have a little more fun in manipulating the world. Anita will be constantly comparing her life with the old one, and that's just a recipe for disaster.

Funnily enough, a bit of a shopping scene was already on tap for next chapter. In the book, the day after Snaks Night, Anita and Ronnie went to work out. Well, Anita needs new clothes and who better to ask than your best friend (even if the last time you "saw" her she was attempting to molest the male hookers in a strip club in her drunken haze?)

Of course, this being me, the shopping trip will result in angst as well... not right away, but tangentally. I'm not a nice author.

Wonderful.

Beautiful.

Perfect.

I'm enamoured.

Switchback = The best thing since sliced bacon.

No review can do it justice.

But you sure can write.

And how!

Is Anita really adjusting, or would she be searching for 'familiar things' to cope?

It's nice to see more of this. It's so hard to remember what things were like for Anita back then and how far she's come. I love how torn she is about Richard, proving that you can't help make the same mistakes even when you know the outcome!

Thanks. She really has come a long way from that scared little girl of CotD days. Now (i.e. post ID) a monster isn't what you are, it's what you do; sex isn't evil and neither is she for having it; and just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. Although that last one was probably true then, too.

Even in the series, Anita can't give Richard up. If her brain could override her libedo on this one, she'd have ditched him for good after that incident in NiC.

I don't think being metaphysically tied to him makes it any easier.

Probably makes it worse. I wonder how much lusty backwash she gets from his own emotions (or JC's thoughts about Richard... now there's a thought)

Looks like Anita's sort of accepted the switchback situation she's in now. Currant Anita is going to intrigue Edward by like a thousand since he doesn't realize so much has changed.
Are you really going to rewrite the entire series? I'm all for it personally, but it's going to be a major challenge.

With the exception of her love life, Anita has always been able to accept her life the way it is (zombies, vampires, guns) and move forward. That is a special type of stuborness, though, and it's going to get her through this.

I'm planning three installments to the Switchback series, at this point. I plan to start alternating between it and Inevitable, in order to get most of it done before Micah comes out in February or March of next year. Because I've got a surprise in store on the Micah front *ahem*
