AHAHAHHAA MANTIS. I like the way you've written Ocelot's memory as constructed (the corny music, etc) rather than simply descriptive - it's true to both IRL and to Ocelot (who is secretly a total cheeseball and we all know it).

FWIW I think your writing style packs in a lot of content but the use of so many polysyllabic words makes it harder to feel, if you get me. It's writing that's intellectually precise but less communicative when it comes to empathy and atmosphere.

OWNED IS WHAT I SAY. XD Hehe, I'm so glad you liked the corny touch on Ocelot! At first I was going to stick to description, but then got the idea to personalize it a little bit since, as you say, that's more the way it goes with memories. The rest kind of arranged itself. Closet Cheeseball Ocelot FTW.

Thanks for pointing that out. I used the polysyllabic words on purpose since I wanted to make the whole thing sound like Mantis is observing/narrating the situation (as he has a large vocabulary and probably wouldn't be too empathic to Ocelot's idea of fun), but my bad if it didn't come across that way. I'll remember for next time. :D

By the way, mind if I crosspost to mgs_fanworks? I did that with my previous fic, but am starting to wonder if it's not a bit obnoxious to be on top on TWO communities at the same time.

Ohh, that makes sense in terms of Mantis's way of thinking.

Crossposting to mgs_fanworks is totally fine though not that likely to reach a different audience - mgs_fanworks was started last year essentially so members of the existing slash fandom had somewhere to post that was open to gen & het content (slash & femslash are welcome there too). So if there's anyone out there who watches mgs_fanworks but not mgs_slash they are probably not slash fans :D

Glad it does! I had to keep at least a bit of consistency, what with the third/first person POV shift and all...

Ooh, I see. Then I'll just make some kind of joint fic post there when I have more than one on the off-chance someone might get an interest in one of them. Thanks for your insight :D
