Is "Hey, yeah, your day job? Quit it now and go professional so the average quality of published books goes up and I can buy your awesome and carry it around with me and read it instead of paying attention to teachers" a good crit? :B *Loves in your general direction*
“See, people were still worried about nukes, long after your time. It still seemed like the Cold War could break open any day. Mutually assured destruction wasn't doing anybody any good, except the sci fi writers who could always use a good setup for something post-apocalyptic. So they came up with this idea to set up satellites and shoot down enemy missiles with space lasers-”
“All right.” Adamska put up his hand. “If you don't want to tell me, you don't have to tell me.”
Aww, you're a sweetheart XD Thank you so much for sticking with this. Knowing that somebody enjoys this crazy thing makes my heart get all with the growing three sizes.
I was trying to think of those things in history that sound too ridiculous to be true. Reagan provided.
I did some sketchy Esau fanart a little while ago here. God, I love him to death. He reminds me a little bit of Kaworu from Eva. But if I'm remembering correctly, he's the seriously the main reason I started reading Stray and I liked Ocelot/Esau before liking Ocelot/Otacon. Maybe because the first chapters I read were Chapter 50-somethings a little after Esau came in, then I read the chapter he appeared in first, then I went back and read chapters 1-20-something and started liking Ocelot/Otacon, then - because I have the attention span of a 2-year-old - I didn't continue reading from there until a month or so later, then I read a few more chapters up until 30-something, then I got lazy and just skipped a bunch of chapters up to chapter 40-something, then I went back and read about two 30-something chapters, and I've been reading most of the updates since I started reading it last fall-ish, but there's still random chapters I haven't read and need to read to actually understand 100% of whats going on. Anyway, I think my point is I

OMG. Art! I can't find words for how much I love it. Thank you, thank you! Fuckin' saved. It's very much how I saw Esau. Especially the expression on the one at the bottom is just perfect

YAY. You like it~ Yeah, I had no idea if he looked anything like how you pictured him, so I'm glad he does. And I had some older fanarts of him from last year but trash'd them for whatever reason and all that's left is this icon.
To me, Esau seems kind-of sort-of like one of those characters in an anime that almost everyone hates because he constantly harasses that main character and makes the most popular main character/whoever OTP harder to pair. But at the same time isn't totally bad and there's still a few people that like him even though they know he's probably going to die by the end of it anyway. Well anyway, he has weird quirks and is pretty awesome.
Yeah, and the pamphlet would be funny because probably everything it covered would only be things that would be likely to happen in Metal Gear world, which is just totally bizarre stuff that would never realistically happen anyway (maybe). I had Figure 4.6 in my mind and I kept trying to describe it but failed so here it is in amazing full cg glory. :B
( ... )
I like that view. Esau is a point of conflict; the purpose of his existence is the job he has to do, whatever he has to do to get it done. Everyone in a position of authority over him has been part of a program to drive him this very particular kind of specialized crazy.
I have this crackpot theory that powers that be behind the Patriots have been dead for years, and what continues to move the world is the idea of them and the apparatus they put into place, or gave its beginnings, and it now keeps moving and has developed something of its own will. Which could be what's going on here. Or it could be an ultrapowerful shadowy group of far-removed old guys. I left it open to either here, because it's the effect that's more relevant than the cause, and in MGS4 it'll probably be revealed that the Patriots' Wiseman's Council is a bunch of hyperevolved cyborg squid in a tank in Albania or something

Okay, the initial thing anyone will say when first hearing the pairing in Stray will be what the hell is wrong with you. And after the first chouple chapters that changes to how the hell did you do that? you are undoubtedly the master of making seemingly impossible, cracky, OOC things completely in character and amazing to read.
Wow, thank you! That's very encouraging to hear. I try to keep people in character, because otherwise, well, what's the point? I'm a firm proponant of the belief that anything can work if you do it right, and the more insane it is, the more fun it is to try to make it work. Challenge, you know? ^_^
Oh yes. I'm trying to write a chain of metaphors about fanfic and that's one of the main points. (fanfics are like ceramics....) You can have a perfectly straight cylinder that'll hold water, but if you make it wobbly or weird then it'll look more interesting and be worth the added risk of the clay falling down. Also that you have to build your 'house' on the foundation of IC, and if you want to leaning tower of Pisa out over the chasm of WTF you need to do it gradually and make sure your infrastructure is strong enough to keep it from collapsing
( ... )
Oh, go right ahead. I'd like to see it, when you're done.
That's a good analogy. And a very nice compliment, too XD
I love attempting huge, twisty, ludicrous structures, just to see if it'll hold its own weight. Sometimes it doesn't. but hey, you can learn from wreckage, too.
There were so many things I was going to quote, but I was stopped short by: you shot bees? ^_^ I died a happy death. That incredulous line from Hal brought up memories from another fic of yours. Can't remember the title, but I believe there was a hornet named Gregory.
Um, Adamska's beauty is classical. (I'm remembering a line about carytids) - felt for him...but also kind of laughed at the thought of a younger Adamska being a scared kid and shooting anything that moves suddenly. Buried Ivan like a flower seed. *snort*
Oh, lord, I remember that fic. ...Please try not to XD
Well, that fearlessness had to start somewhere...spending a night alone with a corpse and a ghost might burn your fear receptors right out.
I love the hornets because they're a great opportunity for trying to phrase something meaningful in terms of something ridiculous, which is one of my favorite things.
My Dev account ^_^; I can't fully access it from my phone but there are 3 or 4 Esau sketches in the Scraps (I'm pretty sure they're labelled with Esau's name). Sorry I didn't present them with cool links or a flourish.

This is the first chapter Ive read in your series, but it's really impressive stuff! I'll definitely be looking at the past chapters later.

Otacon is kind of a badass, in his own wussy way.
