Brutal, this - the candles paragraph was particularly chilling. The 'loyalty test' too, and it seemed to get at part of MGS's moral quandary, too - you have to comply with the mission as you play MGS games, or die.

I think the present tense worked well - it made these situations more immediate. And this seemed like an extremely (maybe overly) cynical and dark take on Raiden, but the tenderness towards Rose and Sunny was really touching.

It'd be good if you spellchecked fic before posting. ><
