FINALLY have the Christmas thing done for Oudetron!

Mar 02, 2013 18:02

Due to running two conventions within four months of each other, my time for writing was nil.  I'm not sure whether you knew I was running this far behind or not.  I'm so very sorry!

But I don't think this story will disappoint you.

Out of your prompts, I chose a Boss/Strangelove "angst" story about the darkness of space.

FINALLY A COMMENT oudeteron March 17 2013, 23:02:11 UTC
First off, I'm sorry I didn't comment for so long. I was busy and when I wasn't, had anxiety issues that caused even the most innocuous writing-related things like "leaving a comment" to look like performance pressure, lol. :/

This fic is awesome! The prompt was the one I least expected to get picked, mainly because the pairing is so underappreciated, so I was super happy to see it mentioned in the header. And you pulled it off SO WELL. The characterization feels like something taken out of the audio tapes, with Strangelove being so very head-over-heels for The Boss while the latter just remains aloof because, well, that's apparently how one rolls after being through as much as she has.

Also, this line is amazing and shows Strangelove's perspective in such a poignant way:
Down here, on a water-logged planet circling a middle-aged star of no great importance, I fell in love.

And this too:
I was cold and I was alone and the stars hung over me so unfathomably large yet small as brass buttons. In a day, they would be hers.Thank you ( ... )

I want to thank you for giving me a chance to write it in the first place. I love this pairing, and I was glad to write it for you. This is probably the best MGS story I've ever written (at least, it's my favorite).

I've just joined AO3 and gifted it to you there as well.

Eventually, I'd like to write more about them. I started, once, on an ongoing story, but I never got beyond the second chapter. Knowing I had someone waiting on a story spurred me into action. :)

I'm very happy to hear you like my prose. That's part of why it takes me so long to write. I'm always looking for the perfect word, the perfect phrasing. I don't always find it, but I try.
