Yum, hasenpfeffer. Alas, not so good with burnt rabbit fur. You had me worried for a while. So glad it ended well. We both made Ilya a workhorse, didn't we?
Thanks so very much. I do enjoy the old myths from Japan (and many other cultures). I was happy that the rabbit was himself rescued by a man, thus the cycle was complete.
An exhausted Illya at the end of his rope matter-of-factly discussing Japanese folk tales with a rabbit is fun! And what a relief that it was Usagi, and the tale has a happy ending.
I really enjoyed this! I think some Native American folklore also refers to the rabbit in the moon. I enjoy stories with a touch of mysticism. This certainly qualifies as a story where it works.
