(At what point do Napoleon and Illya go from working together to partners? When do you see the bond really set in the series? Which episode? 🤔 Are theyIlleon? Or Solyakin

He was scheduled to take over after he turned 40. That was the official retirement from the field age.
There was a mention of everyone knowing that after age 40, field agents were memory-wiped and forcibly retired to suburbia with a spouse as well as children.
Fourty? I'm so old now that it seems too young! Do you suppose he would have been pulled before then? Him no longer being expendable? Or would they have worked him right up until the day?
Kids? How do you get the wife and kids to go along with this? 🤔
The wife was another forcibly retired agent and the kids were orphans. They also implied that they all of them were brainwashed into believing that was their 'real' lives. If I remember correctly a lot of the information came from the episode The Moonglow Affair (with Norman Fell as Mark Slate).
i find it most believable that NS and IK became partners pre-series. DM didn’t have a huge role in the first couple of episodes but, still, I don’t think IK would be at the instinctive “protect my partner / friend against all odds” stage of Shark (trying to stop the whipping) if they hadn’t been working closely together for a while.
No Illeon or Solyakin, please, no matter how emotionally or physically close they are. Napoleon and Illya or Solo and Kuryakin. (It’s a pet peeve of mine that the old novels and magazines almost always used “Solo and Illya” as though IK were a pet dog. I figure it was because the writers were paid by the word, so they wanted to type as few letters as possible, but I still found it annoying.)
(Ignoring the Return movie … because I can’t see NS walking away from Uncle in 1968 for no reason) I really don’t think NS would have made a direct transition from the field to The Big Chair. There’s no indication he had any managerial experience, and that would have been a very difficult move. Active field agent to

I sometimes go by when episodes were shot vs when they aired for my chronological reference? Because networks are dumb. I agree Shark was certainly a good show of partnering.
The apparent lack of managerial experience is what makes me doubtful of a direct step up to Waverly's position. Is there even any hint of running Section 2 being part of his CEA role?
And if pushing all his paperwork onto IK isn't just fanon, you could even make a case for IK being more suited to the step up.
There was a very good fic … I think it was one of Elmey’s … where Napoleon was sent to several other offices to learn the administrative side of Uncle. But when Waverly finally stepped down, he made IK section one also and split off part of the section one responsibilities worldwide (maybe science & research and ?) and put IK in charge of that.
They have people in section one, presumably on that career path already? I mean, prob how you end up with patrick macnee's less than ideal leadership but still
the prelude... [ In 1986 The A-Team "The Man from Uncle Affair" Robert Vaughan and McCallum reprise their roles as two former secret agent partners, only in this episode McCallum character had betrayed his partner years before and has now kidnapped him to learn the secrets of a USSR jet fighter. ] - wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illya_Kuryakin
aren't they then Solyakin, since they seem to side with british intelligence overall?
i never remember them ever taking orders from the Ylleon KGB
as for pecking orders, i think that would be best left up to the girls who are their loyal most devoted fans... and fantasy make a poll to see who fans vote for to take over from waverly! ; )

The MFU movie fandom uses both Napollya and, to a lesser extent, Illeon as portmanteau ship names. I haven’t seen Solyakin.

Hmm. I wonder if they could run it together? Or is that a security risk? 🤔
