I always think of UNCLE as close kin to Interpol, and Interpol's operating income...68 percent was contributed by member countries, mostly in the form of statutory contributions (67 percent) and 26 percent came from externally funded projects, private foundations and commercial enterprises. (wiki)

the meaning of U.N.C.L.E. is made ambiguous so it could refer to either "Uncle Sam" or the United Nations. using "U.N." for commercial purposes resulting in the producers' clarification that U.N.C.L.E. was an acronym for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement.
i read that each episode had an "acknowledgement" to the U.N.C.L.E. in the end titles
so, who's our UNCLE? Sam's our uncle! or maybe Napoleon Solo is our UNCLE.. duh )))
There were at least three shows where UNCLE had a close relationship with some organization of international leaders that was called the Council of Nations (avoiding UN objections): Mad, Mad Tea Party, Tigers are Coming, and Take Me to Your Leader. I think there was a fourth, but the scene was very brief and I can't remember the context. I've always figured that the Council of Nations funded them, maybe hidden under the peacekeeping forces budget
