I don't think it's an unpopular opinion because it's true. He buries things so deep inside and it constantly eats away at him. He loves Sam, he maybe forgives him for his past transgressions, but he never forgets them. While Dean would (and has) give up anything for Sam, in the back of his mind Dean doesn't feel like Sam would do the same.
Oh, I"m not saying Sam can't be a hypocrite, too, and you know I'm not some diehard Sam!girl, either. The instant dislike of Benny was weird, but when Sam called Dean out on it for Amy, that I got. Because Sam *didn't* get to have friends...Dean killed his friend.
And sure, I understand Dean being upset and I certainly get Dean's abandonment issues. But getting upset at Sam for thinking Dean was dead and moving on with his life when that's all he ever wanted to do (not be a hunter)...that's unfair to Sam, too.
And basically, I support everything he was saying when possessed! I like it when his guards are down and things just spew out because it's the only time he lets his real feelings show and isn't acting like an asshole (even when he kind of is?lol).
Dean: Works with Meg, works with Crowley, works with Benny
Ugh. The entire point to Season 6 was Castiel's supposed "betrayal" by working with Crowley and WTF, really, Show. Dean threw this giant hissyfit over it and goddamn if he didn't have any problems whatsoever working with a monster in Purgatory. So yeah, get over yourself, Dean!
Also, Confederate spectre zombie thing wat
WORD. How dumb. And I was bored to tears over Benny's ~epic love~ bullshit. I don't care. I don't see how after all these years of it being rammed down our throats that Dean doesn't trust anyone or anything except Sam and Bobby (and Cas) that now all of a sudden Dean is hugging a friggin' vampire of all things. Gah.
I guess, I've kind of developed a liking for Benny...and if anything, vamps seem to be the ones Dean can handle the most? Like Lenore was the first monster they ever let go free. So it's not unprecedented per se, but after killing Amy last season (and the obvious Castiel thing), it's like a total reversal. Sigh. I hate when Dean gets all high and mighty and preachy. Which, again, is why I love when he just gets to spit out his bitterness at never being allowed his own life and how truly messed up he is. It's more honest and far less sanctimonious.
I don't necessarily *hate* Benny, I just thought getting an episode devoted solely to him this early in the season is kind of wasted because we have only seen him a few times. It was boring to me.
I'm just going to pretend OOC Dean of late Season 6 and early Season 7 never happened. Because you have to in order for him not to sound like a hypocrite.

Hypocrite Dean makes my blood boil. And he IS a total hypocrite. Irrefutably.
I pretty much only want ALL THE BROKEN DEAN all the time. All the lost boy, self-loathing, I-know-I'm-as-ass Dean always. Thank god for fic.
