Thank you all so much for all of the lovely birthday messages for Nate! We had a nice, low key day; I made white pizza for lunch, and then we had cake, which was a hilarious experience. Nate literally picked up his whole slice of cake, and started knawing on it! It was incredibly funny. In other awesome news, I gave him a fork to mess around with ( Read more... )

Haha, funny thing is that he is actually only in the 10th percentile for weight!! I am all like "Wow, 20 lbs, he's such a big boy!" and everyone else is like "Whoa, he is skiiiiinny!" ;)

haha, that goes to show you the last time I had an infant in here, lol. He'll be fine. Keep diluting the juice like you're doing. Chris never drank soda (thankfully, he still doesn't - not even Hawaiian Punch) and he's okay.

what happens when you give him juice? does it have something to do with the sugar? i've always thought it was ridiculous to give little kids soda. my boyfriend was syaing how his mom would let him drink soda he was just the little age of 3. i bet nate is gonna be so much better off the way you're raising him. he's gonna be a cutie with brains and great genes haha

Nothing really happens when i have given him juice, I just don't think that he needs all of the sugar. When I have given it to him, it was 100% fruit juice, but I don't want to even get in the habit of that, just because I don't want it to spoil his taste for milk or water, which are GOOD for him. Juice is just kind of empty calories and such.

Man, I can't even FATHOM giving a child that small soda. Things were really done differently not even that long ago, though, and a LOT of people still do stuff like that. It boggles my mind. I can't imagine pumping my baby with a bunch of crap. I won't even touch most of that stuff myself, much less give it to Nate!

Haha, nah, Nate is just thin. :) He's only in the 10th percentile for weight, but he takes after his dad in that way. When I first met my husband, he was only 119 pounds at 5'8"! He's since filled out a bit, and is around 140. :)

I'm thinking he's going to get the tall from me and the thin from Chris. I'm 5'8" myself, and men in my family are generally at least 6'0". He's on his way to being a tall, lanky one!

My doctor's nurse asked if I gave the boys juice, and I said no. She kept telling me they could have 4-6 ounces per day. (That's a lot too me, per day anyway) Why would you push that? I told her they get milk, and water. I give them juice on VERY rare occasion, and that is it. (I think I told her I give them juice maybe once a month, as a treat.) They eat plenty of veggies, fruit, and meat. They get vitamins from milk too. It just irked me. I really want my boys to be healthy kids. I'm not going to deprive them, but want them to learn what is good for them, and what isn't. I want them to be raised on healthy food so they are more accustomed to it, and choose it over junk food. Too many kids eat nothing, but crap, and it's just not a healthy start on life.

Yay for Natey-poo have a good birthday! Can't wait to see pictures!!! Share share! :-)

I don't understand why people are so adamant that juice is such a huge big deal to give babies! I know that it is 'a full serving of fruit', blah blah blah, but that is why I'd rather just give Nate REAL fruit! :P

I am sure Nate will eat junky stuff at some point in his life, but I (like you) want to give him the best start possible. The thought of giving a baby a bunch of artificial crap and stuff that I wouldn't even eat myself most of the time!

I JUST finished getting the photos off my camera, and I'm about to upload them and post them. :D

Saw the photos! Their great, but I left that comment already hehe!

Yeah, people push juice because it's convenient compared to fruit. But people need to stop being so lazy with their kids health. Don't get me wrong, to those who give their kids juice on a regular basis, I am sure there is nothing wrong with it. I just choose not to. :-)
