Amish Bread starter thingie

For those of you that have had one of these before - do you cover the starter stuff? Or leave it exposed? Seran wrap or cloth?

It's one of the few things the directions are missing...

I've tried it two ways....

One, i kept in a ziploc bag (that's what it came in)

One, i kept in a non-metal bowl, with a clean dishtowel to cover it.

I don't recall noticing a difference all that much, but it's been a while.

I've also done both of those. You do have to remember to "burp" the bag to keep it from exploding all over your fridge (ick) but it takes up less room than the bowl.

I think the last time I had it I kept it in a plastic continer (like a large yogurt or cool-whip bowl) with the plastic lid on it. Covered, but not air tight.

I think the stuff's pretty resilient.
