I'm up early this morning, or late [depending on who you are] and just caught BBC World News. There are giant swarms of locust in Australia right now. This story running after a story about modern day pirates hijacking an oil tanker in the Indian Ocean. And before that, genocide in DR Congo. i always giggle tomyself that this must be the ned of days.
and then I think of how many times throughout history stupid shit like this must have happened.
and I am comforted with the thought that many peope for 1000s of years ahve the thought the world was ending, and it did not.
i dont think it will end anytime soon.

I do however, think its going to continue to suck, til the bitter bitter bitter end.

I agree with you. Things have been worse than now. Luke pointed out that in 1918 over 30 million people world wide died of a wierd outbreak of influenza. This admist WWI. I think since the beginning of human conciousness people have thought they are living in the end times. Truth is, we're all gonna die someday....and maybe that's why.

If you are of a fundamental Christian persuasion, difficult socioeconomic times may be understand as a sign of the approaching rapture. This is generally an anticipated and celebrated event within Christianity despite the suffering prophesied prior to its occurrence. Unfortunately, it is also a deeply defeatist position that placates the faithful into antipathy and discourages efforts to alleviate suffering.
