I was lucky enough to have this woman as a professor, mentor.

How I miss her input and the precision with which she lifted all that was relevant from my work and gave it back to me. A sort of poetic transplant.

Where is she now? Are you able to have a relationship with her at all?

I loved her piece. I didn't understand it all, but loved it anyway. Especially the simple last line; it felt full of hoplessness and regret.

We were emailing back and forth for a while. I also made a special trip up to Ft. Collins a few years ago to meet with her. In fact she suggested just the most minor but transformative changes in two of my favorite poems. Things I just wouldn't have seen on my own. But she is really busy with her own work and last I knew she was doing a fellowship at a school in Chicago.
