stumbling upon poetry, gushing gratitude

cleaning in my childhood bedroom, i found a long-forgotten book called 'a year in poetry', a hokey concept anthology of poems relating to each day of the year. bored and curious, i paged through to my birth date and found something utterly marvelous. i know brodsky is renowned and i suspect the poem is quite famous, but this was my first, ( Read more... )

That's lovely! I love the lines about yelling huns, the city full of people who forgot the narrator, and gratitude.

Have you ever read Zorba the Greek? This poem reminds me so much of that novel.
