UGH. I CANNOT EVEN DEAL WITH GWEN HATE. I DON'T EVEN THINK THERE ARE REASONABLE REASONS TO HATE HER. UUUUGH.

ALSO, OMFG, LANCELOT/GWEN IS A VEEEEERY LATE ADDITION TO THE STORY, LIKE, SUPER LATE, IF THEY GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS THEN IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AT ALL SO STFU.

So, I discussed this issue at length with my way savvy old feminist friend this weekend, wherein she asked two relevant questions: 1) Why do white, heterosexual women write gay sex between canon-straight male characters 2) Why is there this emphasis and trend upon throwing heterosexual female characters to the wolves -- they die, they are sluts, they are maligned and hated by the women who should be embracing them

It's not that she cheats on Arthur -- in this fandom the problem with Gwen is that she is not Merlin.
That's it exactly, and it's so disappointing. It's not that my problem is with people preferring Gwen not be paired with Arthur, it's that the way they justify the fact that they prefer Arthur/Merlin or Arthur/Morgana or whatever is by villifying Gwen. Don't like the pairing, that's fine by me - but don't turn a strong female character into the antichrist just because you don't like her canon ship.
