Another one, like the Judith, inspired by a painting.  This time it isn't biblical but still very ancient-oriented, based upon Francesco Furini's painting "Artemisia Prepares to Drink the Ashes of Her Husband, Mausolus".  Artemisia II of Caria lived in the mid-fourth century BC, and married her brother Mausolus, ruling with him and ruling after his ( Read more... )

Weird but awesome indeed. Anyone who can come away from this little bit of horror thinking anything of Susan's twisted devotion is good, beautiful or romantic isn't reading very carefully. Yowza. I shall give some more careful thought to what the nature of your dissatisfaction might be in this sparse, powerful and very, very grim piece.

This is not one that a person enjoys, especially on a gray and rainy day, btw. However, it IS masterfully written and I am enjoying seeing you plow your way through ancient powerful and strange people of old. I especially like how it harkens back to the mausoleum she is building, and Lucy's admonishment that she and and Edmund are honoring Peter by living. The idea of her slowly dying in her wedding gown is so creepy.

Aww, thanks! Yeah, it's rather creepy - I don't remember my dreams from last night very precisely, but I know I didn't sleep very soundly, and I'm pretty sure contemplation of drinking ashes had something to do with it.

I'm imagining here a very Miss Havisham sort of Susan - hence the wedding dress. I always felt so so so sad for Miss H, and now I feel sad for what I've done to poor Susan and her siblings.

Yeah, I just killed Susan, basically. Not very pleased with myself; the poor girl's got enough to deal with already!

But, thank you thank you! I'...glad?..you're creeped out.

Creepy! Man, I watched Twilight this past weekend and I feel that this is more of the same obsession, only of course you've nicely pointed out the utter unhealthiness of it all. Absolutely freaky. A+

I guess I would wonder where Aslan is in all of this, though?!

Thanks!

That is a good question, about Aslan. Hm. Hmmmm. Yeah, I don't know where Aslan is. Sabbatical?
