She really doesn't. She tries to be such a good mom. She says, "Here, I express my love with food!" and Hikaru says, "Wah, don't treat me like a kid!"

What a melancholy fic. I always felt kind of sorry for Hikaru's mom. She gets totally blindsided by this whole go obsession.

Hikaru's so used to having a terrible secret he has to hide. He can't realise that to normal people, being interested is a way of showing they care. And how else is Mitsuko supposed to show she cares? She can't even speak his language.

I know, God. One of the most facepalm moments in the whole story is when Yashiro is having that "you're lucky your parents don't hate you" talk with him, and Hikaru is just, "Oh...you mean other people's parents don't just silently back them up no matter how mysterious and crazy they're being? Wow."

Hikaruuuuuu!
