Heh. No. Will fix, though it's funnier that way.

Hi Hi Hi! the_shoshanna told me that she had recently bumped into you and from the contact info, I found you on LJ. Well met!

I've read several of the books on your list. I'm curious as to what you thought about First Rider's Call as I keep eying it on the shelf at the bookstore wondering whether I should buy it.

It has sort of a Pern flavor to me without being anything like it at all. Something about the main character. This is the sequel to Green Rider which came out a few years ago. It's a standard sort of pre-industrial revolution world with fading magic, magical doom approaching. The main character is a merchant's daughter, who isn't particularly prepared by either temperament nor training to become a courier.

Hmmm... enjoyable, certainly, but won't stretch your brain with innovation, strange spins on myth. Good to read during airplane ride or bubble bath, I think. Not in LeGuin's category, or even Wynne Jone or Nix. Better than Rowley. Better than most movies (thinking of comparably priced storytelling), so sure, why not buy it?

It doesn't sound like it has much to distinguish it from the dozens of standard fantasy novels out there. If it had a particularly interesting character or a unique magic system, I'd give it a try. It sounds from your description that my instinct to avoid it was on the money.
