HERE I GO UPSETTING THE APPLE CART AGAINWhen I was little, I did many things children do. Some things were better than others, and some of those old habits remain. Easter and Christmas were special times for me because of the bright presents and new clothes and sweet treats, of course, but eventually I learned what they were really about - ( Read more... )

Didn't someone once say "A curmudgeon is just an optimist waiting impatiently for the rest of the world to live up to its potential"? Or maybe I just coined that. But I often feel the same, full of hope, yet distressed at the way of things.

I have actually been accused of that in almost those exact words... lol

I often have this hopeful feeling of distress with the world. It seems to often go along with sitting in a bar at the airport waiting for a flight and watching how nasty people can be to each other while I hope and hope that some one will do just that one nice thing I need to restore my faith in the world. I usually end up doing it myself and then quietly sit back and watch the joy spread to others. It's a warming thing, but I get a chill wondering why I had to start the ball rolling when I was SO waiting to see someone else do it.

Whoever said it, or whatever variation, it's pretty good. I think most of us who wish for better things, however, have been long resigned to the fact that it is a slippery slope that we are heading down with little chance of returning. We can only buck the trends and challenge the status quo, trying to do the right thing, always knowing we will face being knocked down by those whose legitimacy and credibility we threaten.

I personally probably had a lot more heartbreak and trauma than happiness. I don't know why we react in the ways we do. I always did see that things were not as they should be. I tried to make myself better while seeing the bad and being thankful for having the things that were good. In another pair of shoes I may have reacted differently.
