AN ARTIST HAS DEPICTED DISGRACED SEXT ADDICT ANTHONY WEINER
ATOP THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING A LA 'KING KONG' AND I'M NOT
SURPRISED AT HOW MANY PEOPLE FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THE NUANCE
I've seen some of the comments and am reminded of why I find it so frustrating sometimes when discussing persons, places and things with information-challenged people. Not that being ignorant is a sin but when you take the time to explain the facts and they resist it makes you want to just be done with them and live like a hermit.
But then, occasionally, the "light goes on" over one person's head and you are encouraged so ...
Here is the cover of an upcoming issue of the New yorker:
Anthony Weiner Before the Fall
Since I've become well aware that the number of people who have the attention span and depth of insight has diminished over the years, I'll be brief.
No, this is not just funny because the artists has depicted Weiner with the top of the Empire State Building as his genitals - that is a simplistic and shallow 21st century observation and the artist has indeed cited the association of King Kong as his inspiration - although I am not sure how on the mark he actually was based on the symbolism and and meanings within the story.
The entire King Kong mythology is based on the same themes as the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast.
Kong, like the Beast, is smitten by Beauty and eventually is destroyed by his love/passion for her (in the fairy tale the "animalistic" Beast is transformed into a handsome prince.
The film King Kong is filled with phallic symbols that represent Kong's animal urges and the most dramatic one is at the "climax" where, atop the Empire State Building, Kong's love for Beauty results in his "fall". Use your imagination if you want to go beyond the symbolism into more complex issues of the male/emale relationship.
I'll leave it at that. I think the cover is inspired except that it's unfortunate a classic and iconic film like King Kong has to be soiled by linking it to a sleazeball like Weiner.
Unfortunately, in a perverted kind of way, the analogy works.
Now - get out the bleach! And hopefully these people will just go away somewhere and do what they want in private and leave us alone.
