Not only that, but even if it were 850 billion, his math would be wrong: 850 billion x 3 would be only 2.55 trillion. 850 billion x 4 would be 3.4 trillion, which means it would have been closer to 1 in 4 (rather than 3) ...

... though in fact, the number he was quoting was closer to 1 in 40. To be precise, it would be closest to 1 in 41.

Yes, you could have a field day correcting these people on the reality of numbers and it is so infuriating that they get by making so much stuff up. The president is famous for pulling bogus numbers out of his hat

Even if a lie is later corrected the damage is done, It's out there and some people believe it.

In the end, as we all know, they're not really "cuts" at all - only reductions in the rate of spending growth.

The CBO numers tell it all. Theoretically, with sequestration, the budget would grow from $3.6 trillion to about $5.9 trillion in ten years instead of the $6.0 trillion without.
