The mantra repeats unendingly inside Dean’s head, as if he can convince Time to reverse.
“Hold me, just a little while,” she says, blood cascading down her face.
He curses that stalled car in the road, the one he couldn’t stop for, had to swerve around, the screaming tires and busting glass. But he holds her close, he kisses her their last kiss.
He stares down at Lisa’s broken body, and all he wants to do is lay down alongside her in that muddy ditch and leave this world with her.
