Recycling old hard drives

May 21, 2009 00:00

I spent this evening recycling an old hard drive. Ten minutes with some screwdrivers left me holding two aluminium platters, which were crying out to be turned into something:

I was expecting more trouble, but the stuff was very ductile, and the shiny magnetic coating was very well attached. None of it cracked or flaked off, though I did get a little bit of wrinkly texture.

Now, what can a chap do with a tiny annular bowl ?
