Day 7

Jun 07, 2006 23:58

You know, people may think that my connecting theme for this 30 in 30 is the song upload everyday. This is not true. The REAL connecting theme is my continuous discussion/mention of Latin class.

Latin ranting you probably don't want to read. )

See, anyone who hadn't seen our convo in AIM wouldn't know what the "GOOD TIMES." refers to. They might think you mean my Latin ranting. That's sad. This is why LJ and AIM should be separate! Unless one is quoted in the other.

Don't you love how they look like cthulhus? Oh man, could it get cheesier?

If I ever need any Latin translated, I will go to you.

I hate stoopid and/or irritating teachers. I never had ANY good college professors. Maybe that's why I dropped out.

I wish all my professors could be like Magistra, or Professor Wallace, or Gail. And that all professors like Garrison would retire and stop tormenting students.

I cant believe your finals only count for 30/40% of your grade.....
we dont get any hw (thats a lie, we get hw, but it doesnt count towards our grades, its justpractice for the exams) or tests or anything the whole year and our entire grade is our finals. 100%. Mine are next week!!!!!!
Actually, I'm quite lucky though. It's only the science/math subjects here that do it that way. All the arts subjects dont even have exams this year at all. They have them all at the end of their 3rd year and have to remember everything till then!

and i'm impressed you do Latin. It sounds hard.

... That is ridiculous. ONE TEST? That's it??! That's so cruel! The arts subjects seem even CRUELER.

What's your major?

Latin is love, despite its difficulty. Greek is even harder.. and I think I might do that next year.

I'm doing Physics. But we dont 'major' as such. I applied to uni to do physics, and thus, that is all I do. So I have more than one test next week, but they are all physics, cause all my classes are physics (Thermal Physics, Quantum Physics, EM and Optics, and Medical Physics!).

Yeah. Lots of fun. No changing your mind and decided to do something different!

That is the most sickening schedule I've ever seen. I admire you greatly Katie. Wow.

I remember my sister-in-law's cousin talking about the system over there. She asked what I was planning on doing but I was completely undecided at the time. She was all "I had to decide when I was 16!" I felt bad for her ^_^;

I really wish I could see you again, by the way. It's been a really long time. I hope to be coming to London next year to see Bindi's family hopefully we can meet up or something? Good luck with finals!

The highest most teachers ever make it it is 33%

In latin, or in general?

Becasue if it's in general, I've got to reansferr to your school. The average final where I go is 40-50%, and I've had finals worth as much as 70%.

Sucks, though, that your teacher is a wanker. There are a lot of people out there in an educational capacatity who simpley cannot teach. Just becasue you're a master of the subject matter does not mean you're wualified to teach it to other people.

God dammit... Why was I not logged in?

metalphoenix June 9 2006, 03:22:01 UTC
It's Latin that does the 33% mainly. Or languages in general, becuse there are so many quizzes. Other classes usually have one or two midterms and one final.. each of equal value. But since there's all the quizzes, language teachers are usually more lenient since there are more grades to work with.

Yeah, he's pretty much one of the biggest names in the field. Especially Catullus, which was the author we worked on this entire quarter. But he really doesn't understand that not everyone has the same mentality for the subject has he does.

I hate when LJ logs me out :( Sorry it happened to you!

The raw, arrogant bombast of some of these people really sets my teeth on edge. I don't like the whole "snooty acedemic" thing.

What's the point of knowing everythign that there is to know about something if you can never pass that information along?
