As today is my birthday, I decided to take the day off from work (a little birthday present to myself). Ah, three day weekends, there are far too few of you. To celebrate, I went to the movies yesterday and finally got to see A Single Man. It was quiet, depressing and beautiful. I'm still thinking about the ending and I how I feel about it. Colin

I read Memoirs of a Geisha a couple years ago and...didn't really understand what all the fuss was about. Although the movie probably helped with the hype. But both had been out for such a long time by the time I got around to watching/reading them, I think the hype had effectively worn off.

Yeah, I also remember hearing a great deal about how wonderful Memoirs of a Geisha was, so I was a little disappointed that it didn't live up to my expectations. I did think it was a good book, but I do wonder what made people go so crazy for it. I haven't seen the movie, but I think a lot of book fans were not happy with it. I plan on watching it some day, and maybe I'll like it since I wasn't so impressed with the book.

I agree completely about The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I really liked it, until it fell apart at the end.
Also, an ice cream cake from Coldstone!? Omg, that sounds amazing.

Good, I'm glad to find someone else who felt that way. I haven't read any reviews of the movie, so I'm curious to see if there are a lot of people out there who feel that way too.
Ice cream cakes from Cold Stone are amazing! I had one for my birthday last year too, and it was so good. I'm extra excited this year because I got to pick every detail of the cake: ice cream, mix in, cake, frosting, decorations on top.
