For we are bound by symmetry / Whatever differences our lives have been / We together make a limb

While browsing facebook a couple of minutes ago, I noticed an ad for The Decemberists on the side of the page. It said that they will be performing at Wheaton College this Friday night. I was kind of shocked because that's very close to where I live. Now I can't decide if I should go or not. If I did go, I'd have to go by myself. I can't think ( Read more... )

I bet you'd get hit on a lot...If you're into that.

Also, I think if it was someone I really REALLY wanted to see, especially for not too pricey, I would just go. I think you'll have a good time, and really, how much interaction with whomever you would go with would you have?

I have decided to go. I really do want to see them, and I don't mind spending time with myself. I don't know about getting hit on though. They'll be playing at a Christian college in a chapel. I saw somewhere that there are seats, but since it's general admission, the earlier you arrive the better seats you get. It might be a little weird in there, but that makes it all the more interesting.

If you go to my journal and click on the "gigs" tag you'll find that fully eighty percent, or more, are posts about shows and concerts I went to alone. I don't have a reliable music-attending buddy and I finally decided that I would rather go alone than not at all. I now go out solo at least once a week and sometimes more--it doesn't even feel weird anymore.

[Although since I have now become known at a couple of places as the harmless old lady with the blog, I now run into people I have made friends with while solo at shows. So I usually run into someone to talk to between sets, or have people tell me about shows I might want to see.]

I have been reading your posts about the gigs you go to, and it does sound like you always enjoy yourself and have a good time. You're right that going alone is better than not going at all. I have decided that I'm definitely going. The only thing that will stop me now is if there's a problem with the tickets (I still have to buy mine).

I think that's great that people recognize you because of the blog and that you have become friends with some of them.

I'm so glad you decided to go! It's so much fun to see bands you like play live, you're bound to have a good time. Also, the nice thing about being alone at a gig is, it's not like everyone else will be talking to groups of people--you'll all be listening to the band. And you might well run into people you know, anyway.

Also, since I started going out on my own, I think I am more fun when I go out with other people. I'm more independent or something.

Have a great time and please tell us all about it!

I don't have experience on going to gigs alone (I have a good 'gig-buddy') but I have experience of seeing the Decemberists live and they were very very good, so I'd recommend going to see them, definitely.

I have finally decided to see them. It's good to hear that they are very good live. I'm looking forward to seeing them! I still have to buy my ticket though, so that's the only thing that I'm worried about. But as long as there are no problems with that, I'll be at the show.

I've gone to shows alone, it's loads of fun as long as the band is decent. Which I've heard the Decemberists are ( ... )

It sounds like you've had some great concert experiences. I agree with you about the regret part. I know I would regret missing the show, especially when I have no other plans and would end up sitting on my ass all night doing nothing. I highly doubt that I would end up regretting actually going. I'm not the most social person, but you're right that we'll all be there for The Decemberists, so it should be easy to talk to others if I feel like it.
