Maybe he decided that Ruby on Rails wasn't enough and wanted to try Ruby on Crack.

Thanks for the pointer. I've been wanting to get a glance at the language and see what all the fuss was about.

Same here. Personally, I think Ruby on Rails is a bit over-hyped, but then again, I haven't looked too closely at it. Also, I've had my head sorta stuck in the Perl MVC/Web-app framework world for a good chunk of that time.

For a less trippy intro to Ruby, you might try Programming Ruby (aka "The Pickaxe Book"). (More links via spur.)
