So! Some updates.
1) Talked to my English professor about why I've been missing so much class. I think it went well-I explained that I wasn't expecting to be treated differently and I wasn't expecting her to let me off the hook for missing the amount of class that I missed, but that there were circumstances I wanted her to be aware of.
