I occasionally read pieces of fiction in which it is apparent that the author has never spent quality time with a copy of Strunk & White. This is A-OK, as not all writers are freaks like I am and enjoy reading S&W in their spare time.

However, I do have to wonder: Why do people continually use punctuation if they're not certain of its proper usage? ( Read more... )

OH GOD, I BETA'D THIS ONE FIC ONE AND THE GIRL USED A SEMICOLON IN LITERALLY EVERY SENTENCE. I was like: KIFUDHSIFK YOU'RE DOIN' IT WROOOOONG. DDDDX

In dialogue (which, by the way, Chrome doesn't recognize as a real word)? Hmmm, I was never taught that, but I guess it makes sense, since people's speaking patterns aren't always 100% grammatically correct...

The way I figure, it's okay to abuse them as long as you're abusing them in the right way xD; And I don't think that I've ever found a misplaced semicolon in your writing.
