Jessie breathed a sigh of relief the day the "Sold" sign went up in the yard of her childhood home. Wrenching in a matter-of-fact way... how people are willing to simply paint over the horrors of what happened. It's interesting to me, because, in most cases, that's life in NYC. I walk the sidewalks wondering if there is a street or building where someone DIDN'T die, and how those elements are typically covered up. Obviously Septmeber 11 is an enormous exception, but even there, Freedom Tower was built to replace it. Commerce often becomes more important than the truth of what happened, and what you don't know, won't hurt the price you paid for your home!

So horrible that this actually happened. Dreadful.

As I was reading I was moved by the love of the family, embracing their daughter and grandchild, even her boyfriend and supporting them. And then the family that bought the house did the same thing.
The horror is in the boyfriend turning out so wrong, and the foreboding the second daughter felt. Very well told. Brava!

This was such an awful story, but told so well. Of course now I'm worried about the pregnant woman! It seems like the kind of story where a vindictive ghost might pop up for something.

I don't know how it is in other places, but here in Texas, if someone has died in the house you're selling, you're required to report it to any would-be buyers. So at least no one can buy it without knowing what happened!
