I went to Tobin's house the night before last, along with Ant, George and Libby. We went on his trampoline and watched films and generally had fun. We drank but did not get drunk, although I did dive headfirst into a hedge and try (and succeed) to climb a lamp post, so my brain is probably already addled enough, without excessive alcohol. My recommendations:
Nightwish (duh) - seriously, come on! Give them a decent chance - when you stop screaming "pretentious" like Tourette's gone wrong, you might actually like them.
Lacuna Coil - A decent Italian band with a good female singer - Cristina Scabbia I think, off the top of my head.
Lullacry - I discovered this band on a Spinefarm CD whilst in Germany and although as of this moment I've only heard one song, I really like them. Get "Stranger in You".
Mostly Autumn - These should be really up your street, mostly folky - I bet you've already heard of them from Sarah anyway.
Ayreon - not strictly a "band", more a project, but it's definitely worth mentioning. There are some great singers guesting on it - for example, Heather Findlay from Mostly Autumn, and a pretty much unknown singer called Marcela Bovio - a really classy voice. You'd like it.
