Oops - it's 2015 already, isn't it?

Jan 11, 2015 11:28

Well, that was a year! It was busy, mostly in good ways: I had three new books out, plus the year’s best anthology that I edited with Steve Berman; I sold three new pieces of short fiction and had a story in Gardner Dozois’s annual year’s best collection, and Lethe Press and Crossroad brought more of my backlist back into print.

The 2014 roundup... )

writing, update

Thank you! It looks as though my Wraithy project is going to be a go - I'll be posting about it as soon as I get final word, which I hope will be by the end of the week.

I know I must branch out into some of your other series (Order of the Air is on my list) but I'm crossing my fingers that we'll see more of Rathe & Eslingen, and of Mathey & Lynes too. I love the worlds you've built in both these series, never mind the characters!

That looks like a wonderful year to me - I hope it felt good too. Happy 2015!

Thank you! I didn't realize quite how much I'd done until I started writing this post. It's no wonder I've felt unusually tired... ;-)

There will definitely be more from the Points! I am working on the plot of Point of Sighs - Lisa and I had some very rough ideas, particularly exploring the consequences of Philip's stars being bad for water, but now I have to pull it all together into a coherent mystery. (I also have to pick a date so I can cast the story's horoscope!) My plan is to be ready to write it by the end of the year.

And there will be more of Mathey and Lynes! Amy's been busy with solo projects, but we're hoping to settle down this spring and plot the next book. I'm really looking forward to getting back to them.

Lisa and I had been planning the (spoilery thing caused by Philip's unfortunate stars) for ages, and this is the book for it. I admit I'm looking forward to writing it!

I would love to see this re -released, since there has been so much attention on trans people, both the good (OITNB star Lavern Cox) and sad (the death of Leelah Alcorn).

Good news! Lethe has done a new edition - http://www.amazon.com/Shadow-Paragons-Queer-Speculative-Fiction-ebook/dp/B002R59EV2

That will take you to the Kindle edition, but you can find trade paper there as well. Or you can find it at http://www.lethepressbooks.com/

It's really interesting to me to see how far we've come (and how far we need to go, in far too many cases), and how the trans* movement itself has changed since I wrote Shadow Man.

Happy New Year to you, and thank you for the reading joy you brought me last year. I only discovered your work in 2014 and now have seven of your novels gracing my shelves (and one on my kindle yet to be read!)
Of all of them, I loved "Shadow Man" the most - and might be just the tiniest little bit infatuated with Warreven. *g*

All the best for the year ahead.

Thank you very much! And I'm so glad you liked Shadow Man. Warreven's one of my favorite characters - it was so much fun to live in 3er head for a while. :-)

The ending of the book seemed to leave open the possibility of a sequel - is that something you thought of doing at the time?

I had intended to do a sequel, but Shadow Man didn't sell well enough for Tor to buy a second book in that universe. In some ways, I think this is a good thing, as the things I would say about gender now are not the things I would have said then (if that makes sense). I'm still hoping to get back to Warreven sometime, though.

Your post made me go online shopping. I'd completely missed both A Death at the Dionysus Club and The Other Half of the Sky, but now I'm looking forward to reading them. Looking forward to all your 2015-books too.
