Speaking as one of the geekiest geeks that has ever geeked that's currently in a deep financial hole and unemployed I would pay off debt and throw the rest at the Thunder ticket and corset. Tech comes and goes and there are guidelines I follow with Apple products. Never buy the first gen of any Apple product ever. They all have some weird quirk or problem like the iPad's current WiFi connectivity problems. I also just have some problems with the iPad product in general but that's besides the point. :) YMMV.
