Have any of you been in LAX?

If so, what's the one thing you'd hate most if you were waiting to change planes?

(I'm trying to finish a story. No matter who you are, this isn't the story you're waiting for me to finish.)

A lot of the gate areas are really tiny. Like, it feels like there are 20 seats for 80 people-because there are.

Thank you very much! I'll let you know when the story's done so you can see your contribution. (It's a gen XF/Psych crossover. I'd explain, but I have no idea. *g*)

And it smells weird. And the air-conditioning is intermittant at best in the outer reaches. And there are very few bookstore/newstands.

Yeah, the first time I ever went to LA that was my first impression -- LAX smells weird. And it has ALWAYS smelled weird, every time I have been there. Kinda like a combo of dirty socks, Freon, and rotting eucalyptus.

I don't fly. But I go to downtown L.A. all the time (wholesale district and also homeless central) and can tell you ALL about that if you ever need to know. It's actually got amazing old buildings, some beautifully gothicky and some creepy. It's definitely a hive of scum and villainy, too.

Sorry this doesn't help you. :-(

That's OK, you never know, I might need info on LA sometime. But this is the gen XF/Psych crossover, and Mulder's only in LA long enough to change planes.

God knows why I'm writing this, although it is fun.

More times than I can count.

I've never waited to change planes, but I've waited to catch planes plenty of times. I've mostly been in the American Terminal, the Southwest Terminal, and the one with Air Tran (Air Tran shares that terminal with multiple airlines).

Lack of good amenities - not a lot of food variety or any other variety.

What I hate most is waiting for the shuttle to show up for long term parking, but that's probably not an issue here. :-)

I mainly avoid LAX if at all possible and go out of one of four other regional airports unless the airfare at LAX is significantly cheaper.

Here's a terminal map, if that's of any use to you.

The terminals keep promising renovations; I don't know if they've actually accomplished any of them.

I've spent a lot of time in LAX. And actually, it's a decent airport, as such things go. But if I were waiting to change planes, the main thing I'd complain about is distance -- some of the gates are awfully far apart. Especially if one of the trains is out, so the wait times are slow.

Also (depending on when the story is set), there's no free wi-fi.
