plaza theatre...

I was chatting with spawnily just now, and he mentioned having regular dreams of a huge unknown theatre...

Was it a coincidence then, that I had just chanced upon something quite like that only a few days ago?

While I was at the Singapore Textile Centre for a casting call last week, I had some time on my hands, and decided to explore this rather old ( Read more... )

Looking at the construction work involved, I suppose someone had already started that fund, with intention of reviving that space! :)

The place looks grand in an old-school kinda way!
Would be really nice to see it revived!

I hope they revive it in an old-school way too! Would be cool if it retains a part of its history in the re-design!

hmm.

a few questions:
is it or is it not the same venue as the cinema (entrance on level 4 or 5?) if it is the cinema does it in fact have any backstage, wings, green rooms etc?

also it looks HUGE. 1,000 seater? more?

what is its current status? who is renovating it and why?

I think this used to be the old cinema. Indeed the main entrance was on Level 4, but it's currently been cordoned off and inaccessible...

I received vibes of the old Cathay and Capitol cinemas when I first entered this theatre, although it does look all set to be a performance stage now...

Judging from the daylight coming from doors behind the stage, I suspect there's nothing there except an open rooftop...

I did venture into the projection/control room at the back end of the hall, and it looked pretty spacious.

I might return to explore further, especially the backstage and wings, but I wasn't sure if I was trespassing in the first place (probably was!)... :P

It had been a cinema in its previous incarnation. But I have a feeling it had also been a performance theatre of some sort. Perhaps theatres of those days were kinda two-in-one...

Google sort of revealed that a Christian group had been the last occupants of this venue (or could possibly be the new owners?), but it's strange there isn't more information online, or even photos. Perhaps it's been closed far ahead of technology...

It IS a pity about the old Queenstown estate too. It's like a ghost town now. I kinda like that it's still stuck in the 70s and 80s, but it can definitely do with some repainting, at least...

Edric, this place is not just a location they used for Incredible Tales..

It has an Incredible Tale..

I don't want to tell you too much la, except that it is in several database of Incredible stories in Singapore..

How knows, there's going to be Incredible Tales 6...and if I'm still invovled and feel like it...
