As a huge fan of Yasmin Ahmad's movies, "Sepet" and "Gubra", I can't wait for her next film in the series...

Mukhsin

I just love the idyllic yet romantic feel of the opening song in this trailer...

For more on Yasmin Ahmad and her films, do read her very insightful blog at:

Hey, i love her movies too. I got both Sepet and Gubra. I think she has an unusual insight into the lives of the Malaysians. Always enjoyed her movies.. can't wait for her new film.

I liked Sepet a lot, too. 'cos I can totally identify with the film. But somehow, I felt she took the easy way out by killing the Jason at the end. Still, it was groundbreaking as far as tackling such issues are concerned.

Gubra, I'm not so sure. I felt that the director wasn't as focused and the script wasn't as tight.

Wah Muggy's from Ipoh? But what's he doing at the hospital???

The part where Jason appeared at the end is similar in feel to another movie "3 Iron" from Korea, not sure if you've seen it?

The movies managed to depict relationships between so many individuals. Some worked, some didn't, that's life...

Really hope to watch "Mukhsin", the first love story, here too... :P

I am not sure if killing Jason at the end of "Sepet" was an easy way out, for there are only two ways: save him or kill him. Either way, there will be a "what-if"...

I enjoyed "Gubra" for it's added lightheartedness, the witty humour, and the more contemporary feel. When I watched it, I didn't even try to relate it back to "Sepet", and that made "Gubra" stand on its own...

Haha, such a perfectionist! But Life is perfect simply because of its imperfections... :)

The musicians and singer sounded raw and non-manufactured, and most importantly, sounded real to me...

I was totally hooked to her movies after catching her "Sepet" and "Gubra" during a special feature double-bill last year, where Dr Yasmin and her female star came and had a chat with the audience after the shows (see http://merman13.livejournal.com/49568.html)...

Feel free to jio me please! :)

I love both movies especially Sepet. The issues that was brought out in the movies are real in our multi cultural society. I can relate to her movies very well. Some of the dialogues are even familiar. I thought it is only in Singapore that we felt a certain way about certain thing but it seems to ring the same too across the Causeway.

I remember that it used to be such a social stigma for any Malays dating or married a Chinese. But nowadays it seems to be quite common to see Malays married/having relationships with other races too. I am definitely looking forward to her next movie.

I used to hate Kronchong when I was a kid cause my mom used to love to hear it. I guess I have aged enough to enjoy a Kronchong now too. She sang beautifully.

There is a certain beauty about Kronchong that speaks direct to the heart, kinda reminds me of the old kampong days (ok ok I grew up at the old Kampong Bahru =P) before life became a hectic blur...

I think people face the same problems everywhere. Even "Romeo & Juliet" spoke of the issues between lovers of different cultures and backgrounds. But Yasmin Ahmad made her point in her own unique way, which we could easily relate to...

Next time when "Mukhsin" is screening here, let's all go together lah! :)

I love keroncong! The music was very popular in the 1940's, 50's or so. You can find a lot of P.Ramlee's films using Keroncong music. Keroncong music still being played actively in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Yeah, I enjoy listening to old music classics, be it jazz or bossa nova etc, from the good ole days, and Keroncong (how many spellings are there?) is definitely included too. And I might have watched some old P. Ramlee's shows when I was a kiddo, but can only remember that they're mostly in black & white... :P
