I am *so* glad you liked Doctor Sleep - it's one of my favorite books in a long time, and good enough that it made The Shining, which was already good, even better in retrospect.

Have you started reading Joe Hill's stuff yet? I'm seriously of the belief that it's his own writing that's pushed his father back into being an even better writer....

Yes, I've read Heart-Shaped Box and we used to get Locke & Key when we were buying comic books. NOS4A2 is high on my to-read list.

At the reading, King Sr. was plugging his sons' books. He was so proud; it was kinda cute.

Locke & Key recently concluded, and the final volume is out in hardcover, though probably not in paperback for a few more months. Recommended.

I love Stephen King's writing but I had to give up on his horror books after one too many weeks spent sleeping with my lights on. I've never been able to handle horror (either movies or books). I was so happy when the Gunslinger series came out because it was finally King novels that I could safely read. I thought it lost relative quality after Wizard and Glass, but I was satisfied with the ultimate end of the series.

I wish King would write more dark fantasy.

I like the dark fantasy stuff too. Eyes of the Dragon is a favorite.

What I like best, to be honest, is his non-fiction. I *love* Danse Macabre (although it's pretty dated now) and On Writing and always read his author's notes. He really does write just like he talks.

And I think he shines with his short stories. Night Shift is a practically perfect collection, although the others are kinda hit & miss.
